Matrix Prefab Dropfoot AFOAre you treating drop foot effectively in your practice? In my practice I usually prescribe a dropfoot brace every few months or so. Yesterday, however, I had three patients referred in for dropfoot bracing.

Much like the treatment of PTTD when the Richie Brace (Functional AFO) and Arizona Brace (Gauntlet AFO) came out in the late ‘90s, I think podiatrists are going to be treating more drop foot in the future with the advent of more effective and more comfortable drop foot braces.

The drop foot AFO that my patients seem to like the best and find most effective is the Matrix – a prefabricated energy return AFO. This AFO is extremely light and comfortable.. ProLab also has the custom Dorsiflexion assist Functional AFO available for patients with drop foot. If you have questions regarding which AFO to prescribe, ProLab clients can contact one of our medical consultants. ProLab clients can even send patient pictures or video of the patient walking so that we can help you determine the best solution for your patient
